Between the 12th and 14th centuries, the Pazzi acquired control or ownership. of all the surrounding lands and made Trebbio their main stronghold in the heart of the countryside. In the fifteenth century the castle became a meeting place for humanist scholars and was embellished by a Renaissance loggia with stone columns and valuable works of art, such as a fresco by Andrea del Castagno that once adorned the chapel and is now part of the collection Contini-Bonacossi in Florence. The addition of windows protected by railings dates back to the 16th century. The fortress plant? rectangular, articulated around the courtyard which is accessed only by a door protected by a tower open at the center of the curtain wall of the facing downstream, at whose ends there are two square towers. Part of the curtain wall and the towers still have a protruding apparatus supported by beautiful stone corbels and brick battlement. Legend has it that in 1478 the conspiracy against the Medici family was hatched there. to the killing of Giuliano, Lorenzo's brother. When the riot failed, the castle was confiscated by the Republic. The current owners, the Baj Macario family, bought the Castle in 1968 starting a restoration program to bring the Castello del Trebbio back to the splendor of the Middle Ages. Around it yes? developed a thriving wine production with important denomination wines such as Chianti Rufina Riserva docg? LASTRICATO? 100% Sangiovese, IGT Toscana? PAZZESCO? with Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah and IGT Rosso della Congiura awarded 5 bunches by Duemilavini; All our products are characterized by respect for the characteristics of our territory; in addition to wine we produce extra virgin olive oil (also monocultivar) and saffron from the Florentine hills. It was a business choice to take care of the company personally; Stefano Casadei is in charge of the wine sector, Anna Baj Macario in the marketing and production of oil. Cozy apartments for tourists have been created from the old restored farmhouses. Of this sector, so like the guided visits to the cellars of the castle with wine tasting, the cousin of the owners, Alberto Peroni, is in charge. Recently ? A restaurant has been opened, La Sosta del Gusto, where the company's products are presented.
