Hexagonal square Grammichele

Grammichele is a city with a hexagonal layout. Grammichele is the only example of rational architecture in Italy together with the fortress of Palmanova. The city, built after the earthquake that affected the entire Val di Noto in 1693, was conceived by Prince Carlo Maria Carafa and by frĂ  Michele da Ferla. The perimeter consists of a hexagon with a hexagonal square in the center with the closed corners extended mq. 8164.80. Five annular arteries wind around the central square, home of the Mother Church and the Municipal Palace, and from this radiate six other arteries perpendicular to the first that enter into as many rectangular squares with closed corners with access to the center of the sides. These squares are in turn generating generators of as many peripheral rectangular neighborhoods with an orthogonal road network arranged all around the central hexagonal area. In the city there are churches in white stone dating back to the Baroque period. For info contact Paolo Giaquinta 340 055 62 57
