Palazzo Lupis - Grotteria, Calabria

In the beautiful Calabria Jonica, 15 min. drive from the crystalline sea, a noble residence with centuries of history, perfect location for cultural and social events, photo and film sets, B&B hospitality, small ceremonies in the private chapel of the Palace and much more. Built by the feudal family of the de Luna d'Aragona, the palace dates back to the 14th century. It came into the power of the Lupis family - from Giovinazzo in Puglia and originated by the Marquises of Soragna - in the 17th century, for a series of intricate hereditary marriage alliances with the families de Luna, Amato, Infusini and Manso, all extinct in the Lupis marquises. Among the important artistic elements is the seventeenth-century monumental portal, work of the sculptural school of Serra San Bruno, the ancient library that contains over 7,000 volumes, mostly ancient or rare editions, the family archive with original documents dating back to the 15th century and some art collections (busts and portraits). Palazzo Lupis stands on the site of the pre-existing church of S. Antonio, of which there is the ancient crypt in the inner courtyard, which was also the "pit" of the baronial prison of the feudal lords. In the courtyard there are also the busts of Baron Captain Giovanni Lupis von Rammer, inventor of the torpedo and of the historian and numismatist, marquis Domenico Lupis Crisafi. The large leaded windows show the Lupis coat of arms: "of blue, to the two golden wolves, red-slung, holding a heart of the same". The Palace rises in the square headed to the Marquis Domenico Lupis Crisafi, in the "Castello" quarter of the Historical Center, and enjoys a remarkable environmental and panoramic position. Today belongs to the foundation established by the descendants, Don Marco and Donna Silvia Lupis Macedonio Palermo of Santa Margherita. Palazzo Lupis has been recognized of historical-monumental value and for this reason admitted to be part of the prestigious Italian Historic Houses Association, ADSI, Ente Morale Recognized with DPR 26/11/90, Member of the Historic European Houses Association. ********************** In the wonderful Ionian Calabria, 15 minutes from the crystal clear Ionian sea, a noble mansion with centuries of history, ideal location for cultural and social events, photo and shooting, B&B accommodation, small ceremonies in its private chapel and much more.
