The Castellaccio Degli Ubertini
IL CASTELLACCIO by Ubertino di Gualfreduccio Ancient residence of the House of noble Ubertini of Valezano and among these, until 1221, in Ubertino di Gualfreduccio, the? Castellaccio? rises on the remains of the well pi? ancient pre-medieval castle dating back to the year one thousand. The present manor dates back to a certain and multi-documented date, to the year 1700. Located in a privileged and dominant position, at the gates of the Casentino Forests National Park, about an hour from Florence and Siena and an hour and half from Rome, forty minutes from La Verna and Camaldoli, fifteen minutes from Arezzo, in Vogognano, it dominates the entire valley of the Tuscan hills. The superb and unparalleled view, at three hundred and sixty degrees, allows one to see clearly to the south, the side of prevalent exposure of the dwelling, even Mount Amiata. The site, an object of historical and artistic interest (NOT covered by fine art constraints) combines its own fascinating and documented history with the passing on of curious and wonderful mystical legends? esoteric. POSITION In Vogognano, the site names the entire resort call for homonymy? Castellaccio ?. It rises on the upper part of the hill above the characteristic village, from which it dominates the entire valley below bathed by the Arno river. Specifically the Castellaccio? placed in the "climatic" zone, protected from cold temperatures during the winter or excessively torrid in the summer and for there? easy to grow vines and olives. IL PODERE Il Castellaccio? surrounded by a little less than one hectare of arable land characterized by plateaus, strips, terraces etc. The farm also includes? a part of coppice. Behind the building rises a beautiful and wide hill, ideal for positioning the swimming pool THE PROPERTY? The property covers a total area of over 9000 meters. (currently 1200 mt2 covered and 8000mt2 approximately of land) The noble Casale has surface of around 750 mt. distributed on two floors in addition to a turret. Il Casale? been restructured and? comfortably livable. IS? equipped with electricity and water (in addition to the water coming from the municipal aqueduct it has two sources of ownership), predisposition for further heating, a comfortable bathroom, kitchen, various rooms and bedrooms, living rooms, lounges, a yoga room, funds cellar, etc., for a total of twenty-two rooms. Inside there are frescoes dating back to the 1700s throughout the building. Of these only a couple have currently been brought to light. Around the main building there are four houses completely in stone and probably dating back to the same age. although in the past years they were used as rural farms, of which only two partly derive and all four however expandable given the available volume and, if you like, useful for use as property? independent, independent houses, villas and autonomous houses etc (currently these have the following surface area: ancient mt2 50 can be doubled, old mt2 50 can be doubled, house of 130 meters approx2 and farmhouse of 300 square meters). HISTORY? Among the ancient routes used in the age? medieval one, coming from Valenzano, passed through Agnano and Serboli and went up to Castellaccio, reaching San Quirico to then continue, after Tori, towards the mountain. The parish church of San Quirico in the decimars of 1274? 1303? indicated as church or parish belonging to the pleberry of San Eleuterio. From a document dated February 1076, belonging to the Regest of Camaldoli, news of the sale of the half are known of a farm located in the parish church of San Quirico, which Sasso di Lamberto made to Rodolfo di Ungano. In April of the same year, Imilda di Lieto, wife of the aforementioned Rodolfo, recorded the purchase of a portion of a courtyard located in the parish of San Quirico? In Vegognano farmhouse? and the church of Santa Maria, for the price of two hundred dollars. Still another story concerns Rodolfo di Ungano, who must have been a wealthy person from Vogognano: in November 1084 these don to the Prior of Camaldoli all the lands he held in Vogognano, a pleberian of San Eleuterio. Also in January 1089 another donation was found in favor of the Camaldolese monks by Ildebrando di Alberto, of all the assets in that area. From the documents we can find that on the end of the year one thousand Vogognano was under the pleberio of Sallustio, which would show that the parish church of San Quirico was already decayed. About half a kilometer from the church of Santa Maria, on an isolated hill, but dominant in the area, is the building called Castellaccio, which recalls the location of the Castle of Vogognano. It certainly arose as a watchtower for control in the nearby streets and then became a Fortified Mediovale Castle. From this location of can be seen the strategic points that interest the nearby castles of Giuliano, Ponina, Subbiano and Lorenzano. The Castle in the late Middle Ages, belonged to the Ubertini of Valezano. One of these, Ubertino di Gualfreduccio, as shown in an act of December 1221, don? at the monastery of Camaldoli the fourth part of the Castle and the tower of Vogognano, the patronage of the small church of San Donato, located inside the Castle, in addition to the sale of the Giannibono employees from Meleto, Benincasa of Lambertuccio, Benardo da Meleto and Rainiero from Campotavole. (it is a hypothesis that under the hill that anomalously rises behind the present manor house are still the vestiges of the ancient possessions, the small church, the secret passages etc) The Castle more? late and? in the never of the Tarlati, and in 1384 we find it among the castles and villas that those gentlemen of Pietramala listed to the Sienese. From the sentence against the Tarlati, from Nicol? Gherardini, appeared in the possessions of Tarlatino. Not figure for? in the list of Florentine inspectors, a sign that it was evidently already there? simple villa. Beyond the Castello di Vogognano, which is well documented (the Camaldoli regiment, the Florence Archive, etc.) is a village now disappeared along with the name? Urban. We are not able to locate it but not? except that it was located near the parish church of San Quirico: some inhabitants of Vogognano believe that ancient dwellings existed at the foot of the Castellaccio; they deduce it from the fragments of ancient stones and pottery found in the past by their ancestors. (From: "Storia di Subbiano?) THE LEGEND Univocally widespread among the current inhabitants of Vogognano? the legend according to which there exists, hidden even today, under the foundations of the Castellaccio, the ancient "golden calf", a calf of real dimensions completely in gold, which is likely to constitute? treasure of the nobles or the Templar monks of Camaldoli. Not ? given to know anything else except that, still in the past not remote epochs, the area? been the subject of research and inspections by peasants living in the area. N? can you? knowing with certainty whether the precious calf corresponds to a material good of such inestimable value or the inner goal of a sublime ecstasy in harmony with the expected universe, the energy of absolute peace that reigns in this still intense place today.
