It is a new structure that combines an exhibition area with a prestigious bed & breakfast. Here Giorgio De Cesario has his permanent gallery
The Casa degli Artisti, at Villa Maritati De Cesario, is a new reality in the city of Gallipoli. It is a large and spectacular art container, about 1,000 square meters, which, in addition to hosting the permanent gallery of the master Giorgio De Cesario, intends to promote various artistic events in the territory, ranging from painting and sculpture exhibitions to book presentations, from evenings musicals to theatrical performances. Originally the Artists' House was an old 1950s house, which is now the arch. Giorgio De Cesario has wisely restructured, making it an example of an eclectic architectural style, decidedly innovative in what is the surrounding urban landscape. Entering this residence you immediately come into contact with the large exhibition area, an area of about 300 square meters, dominated by an imposing sculpture wall, also visible from the outside, dedicated to prof. Giorgio Maritati, latinist and well-known teacher of literary subjects in the 60s and 70s and the first owner of this residence. In fact, the first verse of a Sapphic poem dedicated to Gallipoli is shown on the wall-sculpture, which Giorgio Maritati, father of the current owner and father-in-law of the artist Giorgio De Cesario, composed in the distant school year 1962/63 and which was then published in the yearbook of the State Middle School of Gallipoli (the ancient Middle School GB Crispo now disappeared). all around are the works and frescoes by Giorgio De Cesario, which attract the astonished gaze of visitors with their astonishing chromatic effects and with those diaphanous, mysterious, yet so similar to us in their expressions on the face of clay. And from this first great environment you will be amazed by the magical mix of tradition and innovation that is the leitmotif of the whole structure. a wide staircase leads to the upper floor, where the exhibition area continues, and gives access to another wing of the building that houses an exclusive bed & breakfast for artists and art lovers. Here each room is dedicated to a different artist: Mondrian with his chromatic geometries, Van Gogh with his small room, Bach and his baroque-like notes, Leonardo with his mysteries, D 'Annunzio with lots of liberty doodles and then, on the second floor, Canova with its neoclassical forms. and everywhere portals a little orientalizing, a little Mediterranean with colorful Andalusian-style ceramics and then large ultramodern windows, geometrically zigzag walls and pyramids, and finally a well-equipped laboratory where artists and amateurs can try their hand at creating works of art and a vast terrace panoramic with a hydromassage pool that invites you to relax and dream, especially at sunset. Every corner hides some surprises, some unsuspected views and you never cease to discover new details and new points of view. It is no coincidence that many have called it the fairytale house or the fairy house. We who live there have realized our dream of a lifetime, that of living daily in a work of art, a feeling that we can successfully transmit to our guests and friends who come to visit us.
